Dress Code

Ballet
  • Hair in a classical ballet bun. Watch our “How to – Ballet Bun” for help.
  • Leotard: Black sleeveless leotard (preferably spaghetti strap, tank is also acceptable). No crisscross straps, halter style, skirt or embellishments attached.
  • Tights: Pink ballet tights to be worn over feet.
  • Shoes: Pink canvas split-sole ballet shoes. Purchased from a ballet shop.
  • Sweater: Black or light pink long sleeve wrap-around sweater for winter time.
  • Nude-colored Leotard: A nude-suite will need to be purchased by April dress rehearsals and the Production.
  • No jewelry, nail polish,  or lotion prior to dance.
Modern, Tap, and Drama
  • Hair in a classical ballet bun. Watch our “How to – Ballet Bun” for help.
  • Tights AND Leotard are required under all items listed below.
  • Top: Black tee, tank, or any ESD T-shirt.
  • Bottoms: Black leggings, black shorts, or black pants.
  • Shoes:
    • Modern – ballet shoes (unless otherwise instructed by teacher).
    • Drama – ballet shoes (unless otherwise instructed by teacher).
    • Tap – black tap shoes.
  • Nude-colored Leotard: A nude-suite will need to be purchased by April dress rehearsals and the Production.
  • No jewelry, nail polish,  or lotion prior to dance.
Hip Hop
  • Hair pulled back away from students face in a ponytail or in a bun
  • Bottoms: Loose fitting jeans, activewear, dance pants, sweat pants, or shorts (no bike shorts)
  • Top: Appropriate coverage top, solid color tees or any ESD T-Shirt.
  • Shoes: Converse, adida or air walk style shoes. Shoes must have a white sole.  (Hip Hop shoes MUST be kept for “in studio” use only)
  • Nude-colored Leotard: A nude-suite will need to be purchased by April dress rehearsals and the Production.
  • No jewelry, nail polish or lotion prior to dance.


Boys Attire:
  • All Boys: Later in the year (around April/May) all boys will need a White, form-fitting, crew-neck, short-sleeve T-Shirt or tank and Black bike shorts (Example: Motionwear – Style 7105) This will be used to wear underneath their costume for the Production.
  • Ballet: Hair tidy – slicked back in a pony tail if long, White, short-sleeve, form-fitting, crew-neck T-Shirt, Black bike shorts (Example: Motionwear – Style 7105), Black ballet shoes, White socks
  • Modern: Same as above but can also wear appropriate activewear
  • Conditioning: Same as Modern.
  • Tap: Loose fitting jeans, activewear, dance or sweat pants, appropriate T-shirt, black tap shoes.
  • Hip Hop: Same as Tap except with designated low top converse or air walk shoes OR high tops. Shoes must have a white sole.  (Hip Hop shoes MUST be kept for “in studio” use only)
